Cooking spray (like Pam) works well. I put down foil if it is

Use some kind of fat-butter, shortening, pam etc.

I use parchment paper, besides non-stick it also is a breeze to

You can substitute rolled oats, uncooked grits, sesame seeds,  
magical lifE...........
flax seeds, or any small and relatively hard grain or seed.
